Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (NACCIMA) in collaboration with Nigeria India Business Council (NIBC) successfully organized the second edition of the “India Trade Mission to Nigeria: Nigeria – India Business Forum” from January 20th to January 25th, 2024, in Abuja, Nigeria. This significant event coincided with the visit of Dr. S. Jaishankar, the Hon’ble Minister of External Affairs, Government of India, and aimed to strengthen trade and investment ties between the two nations.

The forum, held at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, on January 23, 2024, proved to be a crucial platform for fostering economic collaboration between Nigeria and India. It was strategically timed to leverage Nigeria’s status as the largest economy and most populous country in Africa, offering an array of business opportunities across various sectors. The relationship between India and Nigeria has evolved into a robust partnership characterized by growing trade, substantial investments, and collaborations across diverse sectors. India stands as Nigeria’s largest trading partner in Africa, reflecting a deepening economic connection.

This business forum witnessed business leaders from various sectors, including Agri and Agro-processing, Education and Skill Development, Pharmaceuticals, Power, Oil and Gas, Automotive and Public Transportation, Chemicals, Petrochemicals, Engineering, Capital Goods, Apparel, Leather & Textiles, Pulp & Paper, and Business and Project Financing.

Top government officials from various Nigerian States, including Gombe State Governor Alh Yahaya Inuwa, Nassarawa State Governor Engr. Abdulahi A. Sule, Niger State Governor Alh Mohammed Umar Bago, and Katsina State Deputy Governor Alh Farouk Lawal Jobe, participated, showcasing the support for trade and investment initiatives. Ministers of Industry, Trade, and Investment, Steel, Marine and Blue Economy, Budget and Economic Planning, and Foreign Affairs were also in attendance. Dr. S. Jaishankar, addressing the Nigeria-India Business Council (NIBC) in Abuja, emphasized the evolving nature of the relationship, highlighting the substantial trade volume, committed investments, and Nigeria’s premier status as India’s economic partner in Africa.

NACCIMA’s National President, Mr. Dele Kelvin Oye, described it as a historic gathering of economic visionaries and political leaders. He acknowledged NIBC Nigeria, under Sir Emeka Offor’s leadership, for what has been lauded as the most significant business summit, in collaboration with NACCIMA and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).

The event served as a testament to the potential of Nigeria’s private sector as a catalyst for economic diversification and growth. It underscored the commitment of both Federal and State Governments to create an enabling environment for business and investment. The high-level representation from India, led by Dr. S. Jaishankar, emphasized the importance both nations attached to this partnership.

In conclusion, the Nigeria–India Business Forum at Transcorp Hilton Abuja stands as a benchmark for future international economic forums. It showcased the vital role played by organizations like NIBC Nigeria and NACCIMA in driving Nigeria’s economic diplomacy, setting a precedent for collaborative efforts translating into shared success and development for all  involved in the forum.
